FABERGE EASTER EGG

A Fabergé egg  is a Jeweled egg made by the House of Faberge from 1885 to 1917. Most were miniature eggs that were popular gifts at Easter. Approximately 50 eggs were made; 42 have survivedThe Fabergé Eggs are today more than ever a symbol of rarity, luxury and tradition

The first Fabergé egg was crafted for Tsar Alexander lll , who decided to give his wife, the Empress Maria Fedorovna , an Easter Egg in 1885, possibly to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their betrothal. It is believed that the Tsar’s inspiration for the piece was an egg owned by the Empress’s aunt , Princess Vilhelmine Marie of Denmark , which had captivated Maria’s imagination in her childhood. Known as the Hen Egg, it is crafted from gold. Its opaque white enameled ‘shell’ opens to reveal its first surprise, a matte yellow gold yolk. This in turn opens to reveal a multi-coloured gold hen that also opens. It contained a minute diamond replica of the Imperial Crown from which a small ruby pendant was suspended. Unfortunately, these last two surprises have been lost.

The Fabergé Imperial eggs are not only splendid and precious on the outside, but also on the inside, each usually containing a surprise. They are unique in appearance and also in theme, each one having a different significance.

Interesting Fact about Wedding Ring Finger

In most Western cultures, the wedding ring is worn on the left hand. Interestingly, in many countries, even today, including Norway, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Austria, Germany,Portugal and Spain, the wedding ring in worn on the ring finger of the right hand and not the left. In Jewish tradition, the groom places the ring on the bride’s index finger, and not the “ring” finger at all  .

According to  a tradition believed to have been derived from the Romans, the wedding ring is worn on the left hand ring finger because there was thought to be a vein in the finger, referred to as the ‘Vena Amoris’ or the ‘Vein of Love’ said to be directly connected to the heart . However, scientists have shown this is actually false. Despite this, this  myth still remains regarded by many (hopeless romantics) as the number one reason

A more practically based theory is that  the soft metal (traditionally gold for wedding rings) is less worn or injured on the finger of the left hand, due to most of the world being right handed.  Further, the fourth finger on the left hand is probably the second to the least used finger on a person’s hands outside of pinkies.  Pinkies being small, making a small ring with little surface area to decorate, perhaps motivated people to then place it on the next least used finger, namely the fourth finger on the left hand, which is roughly the size of the other fingers.

Wedding rings today are a billion dollar sentiment of love , but no  one can really say for sure when this age old tradition actually started. Some believe that the oldest recorded exchange of wedding rings comes from ancient Egypt, about 4800 years ago

MOST EXPENSIVE MEAL EVER SERVED

Cleopatra bet Antony a large sum of money that she could host the most expensive meal in history and drink $500,000 worth for wine. The next day, as the meal in question was nearing its end, Antony said that it had been terrific, but no more impressive than her other banquets—and certainly not worth the sum of money she had specified.

At this, Cleopatra removed one of her pearl earrings , had a servant crush it, and dropped it in a goblet of wine  . Each of the pearls was so large and rare that it was extraordinarily valuable. That one earring was said to worth 100,000 pounds of silver. It cost 100,000 gold aurie  , a type of money used in ancient Egypt. The pearl dissolved in the vinegar, which Cleopatra then drank.

Antony conceded defeat—the value of that single drink, let alone the banquet, had indeed been more than any meal in history. Worth was so high they could have been used to purchase a entire country   or send a full military invasion
